Andrew has been tuning our 1906 Boyd Edwardian upright for over 25 yrs (twice a year save for Covid year). He is highly professional and treats our modest upright as if it were a Steinway notwithstanding a few idiosyncrasies it has due to its age. Highly recommended.

Thank you Colette for your review… I always treat every piano with respect and get the best possible results on each piano… look forward to visiting you again. Andrew 😃

I only trust Andrew with my Piano, he originally tuned it 3 years ago when it was delivered and it recently developed a fault with the sustain pedal. Andrew fixed it, gave the piano a service and tuned it to perfection. He is incredibly professional and affordable, especially considering his more traditional methods of tuning which I prefer. Seen you soon Andrew! (Once he times your piano, ask him to play you some blues, he's incredible!)Owner response
Thank you for your review. Always a pleasure to tune your lovely piano and of course a chance to try it out and make sure everything is perfect. You’re an awesome guitarist too I might say 👏🏼 see you for the next service 😁
Andrew was punctual and professional and took great care with my piano. Highly recommended for anyone who wants their piano in top condition.

He was also really interested in helping me find out more about the history of the piano, which turned out not to be a Dale Forty, but made for them by Kemble in 1936.
I am very grateful to Andrew for everything he has so patiently done to this instrument, which is now perfectly in tune, and no longer has strange foibles! I would not hesitate to recommend him.- Positive

Thank you for your kind review… I thoroughly enjoyed working on your Dale Forty/ Kemble and bringing it back to its best. 😁
I would 100% recommend Andrew. Our piano had sticky, non-sounding keys and was generally out of tune. He gave it a complete overhaul. It has a wonderful sound now. So much so that I decided to use it for an ABRSM performance grade exam. Andrew professional and great to deal with.

Thank you Sandra for your review. It was a pleasure to work on your lovely Schimmel upright piano and the result was a piano that both sings and plays well. See you again for the regular tuning service. Andrew ☺️
I wouldn’t hesitate in recommending Andrew. Always does a fantastic job tuning my piano. Very thorough and friendly.

I booked a tuning for my Petrof upright shortly after moving house and letting it settle into a new space. Andrew took a look and recommended giving it some more care and attention, staying longer to clean and give it a thorough service as well. It honestly feels (and sounds) like a new piano now and it's an absolute joy to play. Andrew clearly has a lot of skill and passion for what he does. Would highly recommend his services. Thanks so much for doing an incredible job!Owner response
Thank you Daniel for your review… I enjoyed working on your lovely Petrof and giving it some tlc. I love my work as a piano technician and make recommendations for work other than tuning when I can see potential improvements. Thank you for the tea and biscuits and I look forward to seeing you and your Petrof again. All the best, Andrew
Andrew has performed a miracle in servicing and tuning an old family piano, turning it from an unplayable instrument to a joy to play. His thoroughness and care were excellent and there were additional bonuses in that the he was able to date the year of manufacture and recover items below the keyboard which were hidden in over a 100 years of dust. I would thoroughly recommend Andrew.

Thank you Janet for your lovely review. I thoroughly enjoyed working on your piano and was delighted that I was able to transform it. Even when pianos sound like they are untuneable, I always assess them initially to see if they can be improved. 99 percent of the time, they can be, with some time, patience, tlc and technical know how. Thank you for your trust. All the best and enjoy your piano again 😁
Andrew came to tune my antique piano which dates back to 1870. We were both anxious as to how successful it would be due to the age of the piano and the fact that it has not been tuned for at least 30 years. As a result of his efforts I am now able to enjoy playing this wonderful old instrument again! Thank you, Andrew!
Owner response
Thank you Kim for your review. As with any old piano, a certain amount of caution and care is sensible but I like to rise to the challenge. I really enjoyed working on your lovely J&J Hopkinson and was very pleased with the results. Thank you for your trust and I look forward to seeing you again next time. All the best, Andrew
Excellent service always, have used Andrew for nearly 20 years to tune my Yamaha C3 grand. He has a feel for the instrument and leaves it singing when finished. A fairly gifted pianist himself too!

Thank you for your review Jamie. It’s always a pleasure to meet you and your Yamaha C3… and I enjoy hearing you play it once I’ve finished my work. See you soon, Andrew

Thank you Hannah for your lovely review… it is always a pleasure to visit you and work on your excellent Kawai upright, and I can’t resist trying it out afterwards. Having a new piano tuned more regularly for the first few years ensures long term stability and this is true in your case as your Kawai is staying at the correct pitch. See you next time, kind regards, Andrew 😁
Andrew tuned my upright Knight piano which was quite the task as it hadn’t been done for 5 years. He did a great job and was very professional. It’s great to be able to play a lovely-sounding piano again!
Owner response
Thank you Hannah for your review. I enjoyed working on your lovely Knight and look forward to tuning it again. Glad you’re enjoying playing it again. Best wishes, Andrew 😁
Andrew tuned my Boston upright for me and he was absolutely brilliant. A pleasure to have and watch work on my beautiful piano. The sound after the tuning is absolutely beautiful and I have booked to have piano tuned again with him in three months. My Brahms sounds so brahmsian now and just wonderful. Highly recommend as someone you can completely trust with your piano and do a wonderful job.

Thank you Amanda for your kind review… I take pride in my work and know that a finely tuned piano can make beautiful piano playing sound rich and rewarding…enjoy your lovely piano and see you next time 😁

This was intended to be nothing longer than a short sonnet, but make a cuppa and sit down.
The ability to make music is a gift not everyone comes into this life with. Most people with the ability, have worked hard to achieve a level of prowess according to their time spent learning and practising.
I love music, couldn't and wouldn't live without it. My prowess is very limited, after several years as a child, being dragged to piano lessons which, at the time, I didn't fully appreciate. New skills learnt in the Armed Forces meant music was not just secondary but tertiary; staying alive came first.
Success! I'm still here.
Taking early retirement twenty-two years ago, I made a break with the recent past by buying a piano. A Reiger Kloss, by Petrof, it is a small upright in bright wood.
I call it my Grand Piano, because it cost a grand.
I had it tuned once, in 2012.
A man arrived. I made him a cup of tea and we chatted; social lubrication, the weather etc. When asked if he'd like to see the piano, he smiled a toothy smile. Showing him the Reiger, he took out a MOBILE PHONE and small tool from his pocket. I left him to it. The piano was tuned - it wasn't too badly out, just the two lower octaves. I was pleased with his work because the discordance had gone when I played.
Y'know how one bum note flavours the feeling of a whole piece? Yeah.
But in 2022, the sustain pedal didn't sustain properly; the lower octave had slipped again and the keys were not returning quickly enough for repeat notes on some of the pieces I play. I knew it was poorly, but gritted my teeth and carried on. The previous tuner was in no way good enough to look after my most precious toy.
Proper piano technicians and tuners are Very Special People, and many try to emulate them.
Find a good one.
Deciding to interview, by email, as many as necessary, ANDREW CAVE was my second victim.
Leaving seven days after first contact, in case the prey was on holiday, I'd heard nothing, so lined up the next. But Andrew answered, apologetically, with an email. First contact had somehow slipped through his net but he'd trawled it up, and yes, he was interested.
Answering the door to Andrew on the appointed morning, we exchanged names. His first question was,
"Can I see the instrument please?"
Followed by social lubrication.
Quiet and thoughtful, he removed a panel and peered inside.
"I'd really like a full service as well as a tune up please," I told him.
He looked up at me, then back to the innards.
Andrew gave me a price.
I made us a strong coffee, from beans.
He brought into the house a vacuum cleaner, brushes, bags of tools and spent half the afternoon dismantling. I was horrified to see my beloved piano in several pieces all over the living room. Andrew cleaned, replaced almost a dozen lignified pieces of what was once quite thick felt, lubricated all moving parts, adjusted, reassembled, tuned and the gods only know what else. He charged me just over ten pounds a YEAR of ownership.
Andrew's attention to detail, as far as I could see, was second to none, leaving my pride and joy tearfully soulful. It has NEVER sounded better. This service and tune-up was a little over two weeks ago and the piano is, I swear, getting better; mellowing.
ANDREW CAVE is a busy man, working in different parts of the country, looking after the ability of ordinary and extraordinary people to make their own music.
I call that Special.
If you're fortunate enough to engage his interest, look after him.

Thank you Pawl for your comprehensive review… I thoroughly enjoyed working on and improving your lovely piano… I look forward to meeting you and your Reiger Kloss for its next tuning service. Until then, happy playing 😁 Andrew
Andrew's work with my piano has been simply amazing. I can't quite believe the sound he has managed to bring out of it, it sings since his visit and is a joy to play. I recommend him most highly.

Thank you Carola for your review and I’m so pleased to hear you’re happy with my work. It’s always a pleasure visiting you and your lovely Challen piano. See you next time. Andrew 😁
